How the gamer came to beAs a child, Akatsuki, lived a tragic life. Her life isn't something anyone would want. She was in terrible car accident at the age of four, one which messed with her physical health as well as affected much of her memories greatly. The doctors informed her family that she isn't able to run, be out in the heat, or stay out late with friends; all because of how horrible it can cause her health. She was stuck in the hospital, had been for the past nine years. All she knew since taking residence in the hospital was that she was in a rare state that only allowed family and doctors as well as nurses to check up and visit her. She would see her mother and Step-Father whenever they were able to, it only being once or twice a week, but they would always send her step-siblings to keep her company everyday. Akatsuki was grateful that her step-brother would come to talk to her, having conversations of the outside world. Not only did he keep her company, but he also taught her the lesson of each day he had at school, which made her very intelligent girl, causing her to be eight years ahead of her studies. Her brother wasn't the only one to visit, Akatsuki's little step-sister was the member of the family to visit her the most. Akatsuki knew they weren't real siblings, but she felt the strong sister bond between them, seeing as though they were only three years apart and that her little step-sister was brought into the family near the time of Akatsuki's accident. Normally, since she had no idea what the world was awaiting her beyond the hospital doors, expect for what her brother has described, she could not wait to be released from the hospital, to her only known as her prison.
On her tenth year of being in the hospital, being the age of fourteen, she was released. Akatsuki was thrilled to be out in the open, able to breath in the air which she was never able to intake. It seemed she was more cheerful when out of the hospital, but it changed when her parents enrolled her into school. Her grades were impressive, never being under an A as well as being top in her class. She thought that with being intelligent she could make friends, but instead everyone called her a teachers pet, and a geek. She would always cry home, knowing that she would never be able to make friends. Instead of having friends at school she went onto the internet to continue to study. One day, during spring of 2022, she was exhausted from studying to hard and her parents told her to take a small break and play solitaire, pinball, or a pre-installed game on her computer. Akatsuki rolled her eyes and disagreed. She loved reading articles of new technology coming out and she was scrolling down the list of links only to stumble on an interesting column that could change her physical life. Normally games didn't interest her, but after reading the article of a new Gaming Software she was willing to try it out. It was the NerveGear, the first generation of FullDrive technology made by Kayaba Akihiko being released in November 6, 2022; Sword Art Online, the VRMMORPG, officially would start server service at 1 PM. This was perfect she asked her mother and father for the money and they were socked to hear an interest in games. They weren't so positive, so they asked a doctor before hand to see if it was safe enough for her. After the Doctor had assured that she wouldn't be physically moving about during her gaming time, they had agreed to buy her the game. Akatsuki was speechless when she set her eyes on the helmet with a smooth, deep blue color. At the back, it has a wire of the same color stretched out of a long pad as well as a battery and internal memory to store data from the games. Half of the NerveGear's weight is from the internal battery, making it very heavy. The NerveGear's high density microwave transceivers can determine what the user's face looks like. The transceivers not only block every transmission from the brain to the body, but also from the body to the brain; while using it, the player is completely insensate to the physical world. Akatsuki couldn't believe her parents when they were able to get her a beta test version of the game before it even came out. They didn't take all the credit of course, they had explained to her that her older brother was the one who ad informed them of the beta test and that he was able to get his hand on it even with it being limited to few players. She thanked them all for also pre-ordering the game and set off to try it out the beta-test. |
